King Gustav III of Sweden

I'm having a Gustav III moment and found this video shown below at youtube . Its about the Swedish Monarchs From 1523 to 2008.

Some History: The controversial Gustav III was King of Sweden from 1771 until his death. He was the eldest son of King Adolf Frederick of Sweden and Louisa Ulrika of Prussia, sister of Frederick the Great. Gustav III was a benefactor of arts and literature. He founded several academies, including the Swedish Academy, and had the Royal Swedish Opera built. He became a Freemason in 1780, and introduced the Rite of Strict Observance into Sweden. An assisination attempt took place at a masked ball at the Royal Opera House in Stockholm at midnight on March 16, 1792. He was shot in the back. He died from the infected gunshot wound on March 29, 1792.

I am proud to say I am half Scandinavian (Finish), and hope to someday visit Finland and Sweden. I think my next vacation I actually might go because I'm in great need of fresh air! I would like to visit the Gustav III:s Museum of Antiquities shown below.

Or to get my fix maybe I should just go to Stockbridge MA, to visit Gustavian Room. Just look at their computer armoire shown below.

Swedish designers' home: Elle Interior

Swedish designers Cilla Ramnke and Carl Fredrik Holtermann have an interesting aesthetic on display in their home. It feels quite individual with their collection of unique furniture (like the plaid sofa) and objects. I love the glossy yellow doors that open into the living room- don't know that I'd be that brave but it looks fabulous. These designers have a shop full of mixed media art and handmade things called Studio Laila, in Stockholm. (photos by Pia Ulin, courtesy of February 2008 Elle Interiƶr)

Oliko Swedish vintage

Oliko, is like an online Swedish flea market full of interesting vintage treasures. If the 50's and 60's decor is your thing, you have to take a look. It's worth it for the pictures of retro rooms alone. I'm a child of the '70's so this makes me remember things about our kitchen during my childhood. The site has a lot of glass dishware, painted ceramics, kitchen plastic containers and other fun things like an old map.
