Asian Decorating Learn to Live Exotic

The best option to beat the summers heat is to buy an air conditioner. You can get highly efficient, environment-friendly air conditioners at affordable prices. This buying guide helps you to choose the air conditioner that suits your need. Portable air conditioners are recommended if you need to move them from one room to another. Their greatest advantage is their simple installation process. Split air conditioners, on the other hand, are better for cooling large rooms. What type of air conditioner is best for you?

Portable Air Conditioners: Portable air conditioners are priced very low. You can move them from one room to the other. They are portable except for an exhaust tube that needs to be fixed to your window sill. This tube disperses the condensed air outside your home. Some portable air conditioners have an internal bucket or a pan that collects the condensed air instead of an exhaust pipe. Installing a portable air conditioner does not require much work. The portable air conditioners are designed to fit windows. This installation is quite simple and only requires some small modifications. Determine the size of your room and the amount of area that needs cooling before choosing a portable air conditioner. If you buy a portable air conditioner with a higher BTU (British Thermal Unit) than the room size requires, the air conditioner will keep switching on and off. This prevents the unit from removing the moisture from the air. Contrarily, if you buy one with less BTU, it will run continuously but will not cool your room adequately. Some portable air conditioners come with caster wheels to make them even more portable.

Split System Air conditioners: Split system air conditioners were initially very expensive, but their prices have come down considerably now. The split system air conditioner looks very sleek and can be mounted anywhere you choose. The size of your room and the number of people occupying the space are the deciding factors when purchasing a split air conditioner. The split air conditioner is steeper in price than the portable model because it costs more to install. A split air conditioner is less noisy and can cool larger areas when compared to portable air conditioners. They also have many extra features like auto timers, remote controls, to name a few.

Greening your home Top 3 quick & easy tips

We're all hearing a lot about going green these days but are you like me and have been thinking to yourself “well that's great I'm all for it, but I'm not ready to pull up all my floors or spend thousands of dollars in green remodeling projects just to be able to say that my house is green. Well, I've come to the conclusion that going green can have different significance for different people. If you're selling your existing home in a tough real estate market and you want to be able to advertise having green features or if you're like myself and you just want to green your home in order to lessen your impact on the environment by reducing your energy use, I've put together a list of what I consider to be the top 3 tips for greening your home that are the quickest and easiest and absolutely won't cost you a fortune doing it either!

1. Install compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs): By far the easiest and most economical thing you can do to green your home is to replace all your old light bulbs with new CFLs or compact fluorescent light bulbs. These cost a little bit more up front but they last up to 10X longer and save you a lot of energy because they use up to 75% less energy than the older bulbs. Well worth the little bit of extra investment as they will pay for themselves in energy savings in the long run.

2. Install a programmable thermostat: Installing a programmable thermostat is an excellent and very easy way to go green in your home. Programmable thermostats will cost you about $100 or less, depending on which brand you choose, and allow you to set or program your heating and cooling temperatures throughout the day and evening and also while you are away. This results in a significant savings for you on your energy use particularly if you aim to set the temperatures at one or two degrees lower than what you would normally set it at. I installed a programmable thermostat in my home and was amazed by the fact that I saw an immediate 20% reduction in my energy consumption and my bill. As a general rule experts recommend, in the summer set your indoor temperature at 78 degrees F, and in the winter, at 62 degrees F.

3. Install low flow shower heads: The biggest water consumer in a home is by far the bathroom. After the toilet which consumer about 27 gallons a day per person, showers consume an average of 15-25 gallons per person. Another easy and economical thing you can do to green your home and save water is to install a low flow shower head. Low flow shower heads use a vacuum type system to aerate the water so that it explodes as it exits out the shower head, thereby creating a very intense and powerful stream of water but at a low flow rate. In addition stop valves on the showerheads allow you to pause the water flow while soaping up or shampooing. An average retail price for a low flow shower head depending on the brand is about $50.

Install Money Saving Electrical Fixtures

Many people wonder what they can do to ensure that they won't need to continually hire an electrician. Though there is nothing that you can do to prevent sudden emergency situations, there are some steps that you can take to help save on energy costs and lower the chance that you will need the services of an electrician. The first thing that you can do is switch your appliances and other electrical fixtures to low cost or money saving alternatives. You'll find that you can switch your appliances and fixtures for your indoor use, outdoor use and landscaping and garden use. However, if you are going to switch something that requires moving a new plug or outlet, then you must contact an electrician first. A professional electrician is qualified to make all of the adjustments needed to ensure that your new electrical fixtures will work at optimum level. Choosing economical light fixtures is one of the best ways to ensure that you save energy as well as money. Since everyone uses lighting, it is one of the most efficient ways to drastically reduce your energy costs and this applies for both residential and commercial users. Here are some energy saving tips that you can use to help cut back on both your residential and commercial energy costs.

First, you can switch from incandescent light fixtures and bulbs to CFL (compact fluorescent light) bulbs. Studies show that you can save up to seventy-five percent of your total lighting costs by switching to fluorescent bulbs. Next, you should always look for electrical fixtures that have the Energy Star seal. These fixtures have been proven to be up to forty percent more energy efficient then other standard fixtures. If you are going to replace your standard fixtures and need any rewiring done, make sure that your electrician makes those permanent changes for you. By taking these steps, you can greatly reduce your overall energy costs.

Decorating Your Kid's Bedroom

Kids have got to be the hardest customers to cater for. Whatever is the latest kids fashion today is old hat tomorrow, couple with this the "must have because my friend has" scenario and you're in for a rocky ride. So how can you give your child the perfect kid's bedroom that will stand the test of time and not be treated with disdain in a few months time. When I was growing up the height of extravagance was a set of bunk beds but times have moved on fast since then. There are endless possibilities when decorating your kid's bedroom, every thing from color scheme, and furniture to soft furnishings can help turn a child's bedroom from a normal bedroom in to a play palace of extraordinary fun. So many little additions can be made to the bedroom when decorating to turn it in to this haven of fun and not all of them have to cost a small fortune. Children love adventures and hiding so why not incorporate a hiding den into the bedroom? This can double as a small area where your child can sit and relax, read and study without being disturbed by other family members. This will give your child a sense of escapism as well as a bit of privacy which all children cherish from time to time.

There are many differing themes available for children's bedrooms, from rescue services to pirates and from army related to truck driver, all these themes have a range of bedroom furniture to go with them For instance why not buy a truck driver bed for your child but instead of leaving it at that why not decorate the bedroom to make it look like the inside of a truck or make it look as though you are looking out of the windscreen of a truck driving down the free way. If you are not so good at decorating you can search on the inter web or in your local phone directory for a home decorator that specializes in decorating children's bedrooms. These guys are experts in their fields and will turn their hands to decorating a room with a mural theme of your choice. If you yourself are a fairly good decorator you can have a go yourself. All you need is the use of an overhead projector and a slide to project on to the wall of the room. When the slide is on the wall all you have to do is draw around the outline of the image and then colour it in using standard paint. This is a very cheap way to jazz up your kids bedroom with very little cost or effort.

A very popular theme at the moment with small kids is an army theme, this is a great look for a boy's bedroom and is quite simple to achieve. For this look there is no real need for any special kid's bedroom furniture. You can create an army style tent bed from a standard single bed by hanging a canopy over the top and then from the ceiling suspend some camouflage cargo netting. All there is to do next is paint the walls in a camouflage style and voila you have an army style bedroom with very little expenditure on kid's bedroom furniture. The possibilities are endless when decorating a child's bedroom.

Area Rugs Tips on How to Buy

Buying an area rug is a purchase that reflects your personality and style, so naturally you want to make sure that it's perfect. Here are some tips to keep in mind before you take the leap and purchase a new rug. Do some research to find the right size for your needs. There are a few common sizes of rugs: 2'x 3', 4'x6', 5'x8', 8'x10' all of which work well in different scenarios. Let's use this example: you want to buy a rug to fit under your coffee table in the living room. You want to make sure that the rug fits under the whole seating area, not just under the table itself. The rug should be under the front legs of the piece of furniture and typically extend about a foot around the table. You may find it helpful to mark these locations with masking tape or even lay down a newspaper to give you a visual of the area you think you'll want to cover; it makes measuring a little easier. If you are thinking of putting a rug under your dining room table, make sure that you can pull out the chairs and still have them on the rug. Use the same principles for measuring to get the size you need. One of the most common reasons rugs are returned is that they are too small for the area they are intended for. If you're on the fence, you may consider going to the next size up.

Colors are important for any aspect of home decoration, not just when it comes to picking an area rug. Area rugs can blend in to your existing décor or become a new focal point of a room. Colors can invoke emotions: reds give energy but can also create angry feelings, blue calls to mind feelings of calmness and security, green also has a calming effect and symbolizes nature, yellow is cheery, warm and grabs attention. Keep in mind if shopping online for a rug that screen resolution settings may vary causing the colors to not exactly what you see on the site. However, don't avoid shopping online, many sites have lower prices than you could find in a store and the color descriptions given are pretty spot on. The style of the rug is another factor to consider and there are many to choose from: contemporary, shag, traditional, braided, southwestern, the list goes on and on. This is perhaps where your personality is allowed to shine through the most. Every style has different patterns or characteristics that make them unique. If you have a modern loft a colorful, contemporary rug may be the best fit for you. Shag, or flokati rugs, also have a very modern feel. Traditional rugs may work best in a more formal area of the house. The important part of choosing the style of rug is to find a design that you like and blends in with your existing décor. One final thing to keep in mind when considering an area rug for your home is the material of which the rug is made. Different materials stand up to wear and tear, sunlight and foot traffic differently. Find out what the rug is made of and do some research as to whether that material has qualities that will work in the space you are planning to put it in.

Sun Wall Decoration Ideas To Decorate Inside and Out

Sun Wall Decor Ideas To Decorate Inside and Outside : Celestial sun wall decor will make an upbeat, festive splash in your casual living areas: sun room, patio, family room; even a bathroom or kitchen. You will discover dozens of ideas for sun decor in your home. The inside entrance to your home is a great place to set a welcoming upbeat tone for your home. Let's start with a metal sun wall decor piece. Hang the sun on the wall high enough to hang a functional coat rack below it. If you have a large enough wall here, accent with smaller moon and/or stars for the "whole" look. Select the style, color and size that is appealing to you and a style that compliments your home overall. The family room or casual living area is a fun area to decorate with celestial sun moon wall decor. Because of the size, this would be a great room to include the popular star wall decor as an accent. Either above the mantel or behind the sofa--whichever you would like to be your main focal point, you can hang a large, classy sun wall hanging. Accent it with wall pockets or metal wall candle sconces. Use a pair of star shaped wall pockets and fill with artificial greenery and/or bright, sunny flowers. Sunflowers are really popular right now. Candle sconces, with a leaf or star motif, incorporated in the design will help carry your look. For a more upscale sun wall decor look, you may want to try a more abstract sun look--one with no face or a piece that just has a sunburst, ray look. Continue your sun wall decor to the smaller wall spaces in your room with a grouping of stars or stars and moon. Including a mirror or wall clock in the grouping, when enough space is available, adds an extra touch to the room. Just make sure the home decor accessories have the same style and feel...whether casual, country, traditional...

One room we have found to be quite popular for sun wall decor, is the bathroom. In most baths, you will need to find smaller sun decor. One suggestion, would be to hang decorative sun stepping stones. Most of the decorative stones, on the market, have hangers on the back just for this purpose. The stepping stones are a good size and resistant to the humidity and moisture found in bathroom areas. The bathroom is a fun room to hang a small, "sunny" windchime. Finish it off with a small artificial flower pot with bright daisies or sunflowers. A small sun plant poke would make a nice finishing touch. I think you will agree that just about anything goes in the kitchen today. Sun decor will be great to brighten up a small, wall starved kitchen. It would be extra fun if you are lucky enough to have a breakfast nook. The normally limited wall space in a kitchen is broken into small, odd shaped areas. So, lets go on a search for some smaller, unique sun wall decor. Keep your eyes open for a small moon or stars to accent and mix and match with the sun decor. Hang your favorite sun wall decor piece above the kitchen sink or on a wall space at the end of your cupboards. Hang the smaller accent, celestial pieces on the narrow wall area between your wall cabinets and the counter tops.

This area, I would recommend, that you focus a grouping in one area to create a focal point. Then above the cabinets, if you have a wall area, decorate with small sun, moon star decor, interspersed with kitchen and family word art. If you have a ledge above your cabinets, place a sun on a pedestal--you may be able to use short plant pokes. Give a back drop and "fluff" the area with artificial greenery, sunflowers and vases--they are all a great look with sun decor. In the breakfast nook, it would be fun to include a rooster with the sun theme. Mixing and matching is very popular, fun and easy--if you like it, go for it! Sun kitchen home decor can also be worked in with an Italian kitchen theme, just use more of the rich, deep coloring associated with the look. Lets step outside now--first, lets consider the screened in, 3- seasons porch. This area will come to life with a bright sun wall hanging right next to your windows. Consider a sun themed water fountain on a tabletop. Add wall pockets and vases with silk grasses and flowering sunflower bushes--or your favorite flower. Hang a sun windchime in the corner and add celestial plant pokes to your vases. Get the idea...have fun. You could change your wall pocket fillers with each season. Now step out onto your outdoor patio. A large metal sun will be perfect on the exterior wall, near the door, leading into the house. Depending on the wall area available, you may also accent with the moon and stars. Add a celestial looking bird feeder. Fill large pots with live or artificial flower bushes and silk or live grasses. A sun wall trellis is a unique piece that is a great addition on the deck or in a nearby flower bed. Sun wall decor is a trendy home decorating theme that you will find fits in the interior of your home or out on the deck. It is a cheery, fun look, that brings the great outdoors to life. Have fun decorating. Homedecoratingstudio.com has lots of great pieces to help with your decorating.

Persian Rugs Stand The Test Of Time

Persia - modern day Iran - was once the most powerful empire in the Middle East, standing at the crossroads of Eastern and Western civilizations. It is known as the home of the original oriental carpet, and they are often generically referred to as "Persian rugs". Having originally been created out of need by nomadic tribes, Persian carpets became treasured heirlooms passed on from one generation to the next. The oldest surviving carpet, the well documented Pazyryk carpet, is over 2000 years old. This carpet was discovered in a Scythian tomb in southern Siberia in the 1940s and has been dated between the fourth and fifth centuries BC. Its weave is of such exceptional quality that carpet weaving of the period must have been a well engineered and highly efficient art.

Weaving flourished to exceptional heights through the Safavid Dynasty (1502-1736), and exports of Persian carpets began in the 16th century. Royal factories were set up, using the finest materials and manufacturing methods. Soon Persian carpets became the envy of the world, and western royal households sought to possess some of the finest examples. Production of carpets in Iran continues today, but whereas there use to be large city workshops, much production these days is more like a cottage industry from smaller villages and towns. The critical thing about a genuine Persian carpet is that it is hand-made. Even with a team working on a carpet, a single item can still take many months, even years, to complete.

Persian carpets are famous for the tremendous variety in design, colour, size, and weave, and as each one is hand-made, for uniqueness. Plants, roots and other natural substances are used to create the dyes used in the carpets, meaning there are subtle variations of the same colour, particularly those woven by nomadic tribes or in older carpets. Carpets have been made from the same materials for centuries: wool, cotton or silk. Sheep's wool is the most common, but goat's wool can also be used. In tribal weaving wool is traditionally used for the foundation, but sometimes cotton or even silk can be used to enable smaller knots to be tied, which allows the manufacturer to create a finer carpet with more intricate designs. In general terms rugs are named after the village, town or district where they are made, or by tribe that weaved them if by nomads. The particular pattern, palette, and weave attributes of each rug are uniquely linked with weaving techniques and culture of its makers.

Green Nursery for Your New Baby

How to Create a "Green Nursery" for Your New Baby A child's arrival can be one of life's most joyous occasions, and if you're expecting a baby, you may be focused on planning the baby shower or decorating the nursery. While finding interesting color schemes and baby furniture can be exciting, you may be unaware that many of the products commonly found in nurseries such as paint, furniture, and carpeting can emit harmful pollutants such as particulates and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into your baby's air. Paying close attention to your child's indoor air quality is extremely important, as prolonged exposure to airborne pollutants can result in adverse health effects such as asthma, allergies, hay fever, and breathing difficulties. In fact, studies conducted by the EPA have shown that asthma afflicts approximately 6.3 million children, with the biggest growth in asthma cases occurring in children under five. Asthma also tends to be interrelated to allergies, with a large number of asthmatic children also suffering from severe allergies. Therefore, with this in mind, creating a natural baby nursery should take precedence over many other baby-planning activities, as clean air and a baby's immune system are inextricably linked. As mentioned, VOCs often plague baby nurseries, and they can be found in products such as gasoline, nail polish, and paint thinners. In addition to being hazardous to your baby's health, VOCs harms the environment by contributing to ground-level ozone. Look to these tips to make your nursery as safe as possible.

Paint VOCs are found in many paints and are released in the air as the paint dries. Before painting your nursery, be sure to look for paints that are low in both VOCs and odor. After the nursery is painted, keep the room well-ventilated by keeping windows open and fans on until there is no remaining odor. Children and pregnant women should also avoid going inside newly painted rooms for at least 72 hours, and if you must paint after the baby comes home, keep the child in another bedroom for a few weeks or until there is no odor.

Floors Because infants and young children spend the majority of their time on the floor, look for safe floor coverings such as cotton hand-loomed rugs, natural carpet, or even carpet tiles. Also look for area rugs made of natural fibers such as sea grass, sisal, coir, hemp, or jute, as these are stylish, extremely durable, often cost less than wool. If you choose to use conventional carpet or rug, air it out in a ventilated area for a week before installation, or ask the carpet retailer to have it aired out and unrolled a week prior to installation and/or delivery.

Furniture : Beware of cribs, changing tables, dressers, and shelves made of laminated wood, pressed wood, fiberboard, or particle board, as these can eliminate formaldehyde due to the glue in the products. Instead, opt for solid wood cribs and furniture and use natural or chemical-free bedding. To further protect your baby from pollutants, consider purchasing a high quality air purifier with HEPA and Activated Carbon. Not only do these air purifiers offer a high level of protection from a variety of airborne contaminants, they also create a gentle hush that resembles the familiar sound your baby has enjoyed for nine months in the womb.

Room Decor of Different Time Periods

When one sets upon fashioning and furnishing a room, the one thought that occurs is the mood setting. The dilemma and confusion between an Empire chair and a Louis XVI chair would all seem same. Then the question about the reproductions and antiques arise, mislead - why would some one do that to me? The primary aspect that has to be determined when furnishing or rearranging in case of a flat is to know whether you want ultimate comfort or simply aim at formality. The room has to be defined by you mentally for the purpose. It has to be known well in hand if it is for a man's study or family library, living room or a reception room, a boudoir or a bedroom? Minor issues, but they go along way in confirming the interior décor. It is just like getting to know a game of bridge, you learn it gradually. And if you find all the picking, choosing, arranging and rearranging tedious and you have no singular interest in it, it is better to hire the services of an interior decorator.

If you are the kind of person who has a leaning towards formality, comfort and also own a house in a city and country. The task would be simpler as you could opt for summers, holidays and weekends at the country house while the flat or town house in the city could take care of formality. Each individual is capable of being creative. The subject of the matter is the deep chairs with wide backs and seats, downy cushions, soft springs etc. Bookcases and tables elegantly placed, lights soft and at appropriate places. Beds too can add to the décor according to the taste of the individual in terms twin, single or double beds.

From among the various tasks, the primary job is to choose the right kind of antique belonging to a certain period or periods while getting the blends and combinations correct. Even if you identify the right subject it is sure to have taken a beating due to age, but the unmistakable craftsmanship, color and the purpose of hardiness is unfathomable. For example, in case you want to buy a desk - preferably an antique desk, you are required to visit an antique dealer and when you are certain you have found the right piece suiting and enhancing your décor, then you could ask for your friend's opinion who is reasonably experienced. When decided, it is mandatory to know the period to which the desk belongs to. It should be the kind that which would give you delight and the dealer too. Most of the antiques are known to have the unique signature of the maker engraved or marked on it. Purchasing an antique is similar to the purchase of a prized pedigree. Referring to books and periodicals would enlighten and educate you further more on the subject. The seeds as an antique would have been sown. When embarking upon making private collection it is suggested that you would have to be constantly on the lookout for rare unique pieces. Although, most of them would reside with museums and private collections, they would definitely deserve a look to determine the kind of make, usage of craft and the hues and colors used. Some of them guard to their antiques with such care and aggressiveness that it is a matter of envy.

How To Select And Hang A Chandelier

First, consider a few pertinent questions that will guide you in selecting an appropriate chandelier. What is the main purpose or primary use for the chandelier you are considering: reading, writing, work projects, area lighting, dining room lighting, accent lighting, an object of art, a beautiful specimen, just something pretty that will light up an area ? What colors are you using in the room with your new chandelier ? Hold these thoughts and let us consider a few more. What room is the chandelier going to be placed: living room, den, bedroom, dining room, foyer, kitchen, bathroom, game room, entertainment room ?

When will you typically be using the chandelier: morning, noon, afternoon, bedtime, at meals, after supper, late night ? Will others be in the room with you when you are using the chandelier ? Will the light from the chandelier affect others in the room? Now that you have pondered the above ideas, let us look at some specifics especially sizes. Home decor items are very important as they relate to each other in the same room. How big is the table, counter, shelf, etc. where the chandelier will be used ? A large chandelier over a small table or small area will appear overpowering. A small chandelier over a large table or in a large area will appear lost.

How large is the room where the chandelier is to be used ? A small chandelier in a huge room will appear lost and vice versa. How high are the ceilings ? Many medium to large homes today have 17' or taller ceilings in the great room. Generally a 36" tall and 36" wide chandelier with 6 lights minimum is right at home in a moderate size great room. Larger great rooms require larger chandeliers. Think of relativity and remember Einstein. Each individual situation has different requirements. Vertical location of your chandelier is extremely important and varies greatly with the situation. When located over a dining table, the bottom of the chandelier should generally be around 36" from the table top but it also depends on other variables. When located in a foyer, living room, bedroom, bathroom or great room it should be much higher. Variables include ceiling height, room size, furniture location and traffic areas.

The construction material of your new chandelier can be extremely important. The most durable materials are metals, stone, porcelains, crystals, glass and wood. All of the antique chandeliers that we repair are made from these materials and they very handsomely stand the test of time. Resin, poly resin and hydrocal are not recommended for any chandelier that you wish to keep for an extended period of time as these materials nearly self destruct.

Best Way to Clean Mildew Off Wood and Bricks

Brick Cleaning and Maintenance
Last June we installed a new redwood deck. After waiting two weeks, my husband treated it with Cabot Australian tree oil. We now have areas that are almost black and others as pristine as the day the deck was installed. I have wiped off the black areas and have found the rag to be covered in a black residue. An apricot tree hangs over part of the deck but the color between the tree's droppings and the color on the deck is inconsistent. What is our problem and how can it be solved?

A: You've posed the first of what are usually many of our annual deck maintenance questions. Without question there's a fungus among us. You have a mildew problem. The clues are that the apricot tree shades the deck and the black residue covers the rag when you wipe the discolored area. The deck is protected from sunlight by the shade of the tree. Especially in winter, areas getting little sun are prone to be damp, making them perfect breeding grounds for mildew. Kevin had a similar problem in Alameda, Calif., with a deck that was on the north side of his house. It got some sun in the summer, but in the wet winter months the black slime came out. At one point he even started to grow a nice crop of moss. Fortunately, the solution is simple. Kill the mildew with a mildewcide, pressure-wash the deck and reseal it.

A Natural Alternative to Traditional Window Treatments

Bamboo shades refer to window shades made from lightweight materials such as bamboo, reed, rattan, jutes, faux wood and woven woods. These are typically woven together to create a textured, natural look. They are also a very affordable option, and require little maintenance. Dusting with a feathered or lambs wool duster will often to the trick, as will careful vacuuming with the duster attachment. Because they are lightweight, they are not as durable as some other options. They are available in a range of styles, and often use pull cords for moving them up and down. These two issues make them not a good choice for a children's room, but other than that, they can be used to compliment a number of decorating styles. Many also come with valance options for a complete window treatment.

Bamboo shades have been used for a long time. Originally, they were made by drying bamboo reeds, and weaving them together using rope. If you want an 'old style' bamboo shade, it is possible to find handmade shades for a reasonable price. Advances in technology also make a number of other styles available, many of which are similar to the original hand crafted versions.

Apartment Makeover Tips 2008

1. Clutter be gone: It's time to find a place for those things you said you'd find a place for last year. A space with no clutter has a chance to show off its lines. The general rule is: if you haven't touched it in three months (or forgot you even had it) throw it out! Remove or downsize the number of knickknacks, paintings or pictures, put them in a box and rotate them every other month! Less is definitely more!
2. Give furniture a new look: Grandma's slipcovers are a thing of the past. Now there are stylish slipcovers for living room furniture as well as for kitchen chairs that will give your dining area an elegant, sophisticated look. Check out slipcovers in a variety of colors and patterns that will add just the panache you're looking for!
3. Get creative with walls: Living in an apartment may mean that you've signed a lease that doesn't allow you to paint the walls. Not a problem! Buy a length of tasteful yet inexpensive cloth from a sewing store and drape it from chic and classy hooks. Add pictures or paintings to finish the look.
4. Grab a screwdriver: Nothing changes the look and theme of an apartment better than changing the knobs on cabinets or dresser drawers, light switch plates and curtain rods. (And when the time comes for you to move out, you can take it all with you!)
5. Lay it on: The easiest change to make in an apartment is also the quickest! A lovely area rug will pull a room together - and adding color coordinated rugs throughout the apartment will provide a lovely continuity throughout the entire living space, giving the final touch to your makeover.

Need of Home Improvement Bathroom Home Improvement And Kitchen Repair

The first part of the home that is attacked in home improvement is the bathroom and the kitchen. This is because these are the parts of the home that witnesses the most wear and tear with excessive daily use. It is a necessity for everyone to visit and use the bathroom at least twice a day while a person’s cooking is all done in a kitchen where all the appliances and worktables will be used. With bathroom home improvement, there may be a need of changing the tiles, fixtures and other accessories of the bathroom. While kitchen repair involves the changing of tiles, sinks, worktables and of course, a new coat of paint. You can save a lot of time and money by thinking of some ideas for bathroom home improvement and kitchen repair instead of leaving it all to the designer.

You first have to measure the bathroom and kitchen, and draw them to scale on a sheet of square paper. Measure the distance between walls, floor and ceiling and size of windows. Once you have this rough scale, you can start redesigning the bathroom and kitchen.Though magazines and bathrooms provide ideas for redesigning the bathroom and kitchen, the ideas may not always be practical or realistic. Use these ideas only as a base for you to develop your ideas on. It proves to be useful to use a digital camera to record the bathroom and kitchen for filing in the computer for future reference. You will never know when you find alterations and savings in redesigning that you were not aware of before.
